Series “Oberehy” (Guardians) combines two types of guardians’ symbols – anti-tank hedgehogs and embroidery.
Hedgehogs, as material guardians and protectors, have become symbols of war and resistance since the very beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. They began to appear on the roads of the entire country, protecting cities from the military equipment of the aggressor country.
For this series, photographs of hedgehogs located at Independence Square in Kyiv in the summer of 2022 are used.Embroidery is also an amulet, but on an intangible level.
In Ukrainian culture, it has always been considered as a symbol that carries a strong energetic charge and contains universal information that everyone can understand.
The embroidered symbols on the photos of this series are called to protect human souls from evil enemy forces and protect the treasures of the national spirit.
